Terri Phoenix is a white, queer, transgender parent who lives with multiple chronic medical issues and has been clean and sober for 32 years (pronouns T or he/him/his). Terri holds a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia and served as the director of the UNC-Chapel Hill LGBTQ Center for 16 years. A highly sought speaker and educator on LGBTQIA+ communities, Terri has been featured on NPR on The State of Things, Chapelboro’s Hometown Hero, and was a recipient of UNC Greensboro’s Pacesetter Award for outstanding Alumni. During his time at UNC-Chapel Hill he was the recipient of many awards and honors. T has spent most of his adult life educating about and advocating for/with the LGBTQIA+ community. T has been published in academic journals but is now turning his passion toward sharing about his recovery from childhood trauma and addiction. He believes fervently it is never too late to have a happy childhood. Terri lives in Durham, NC with his wife, their teenager, and their dog. Solace is sought in music, nature, and wild spaces.
